He'd had the ring for precisely five days, six hours, thirteen minutes, and nine seconds. It was drawing closer and closer to a week, but he actually had yet to get fully used to the power of the ring. There was a surprising amount one could do in a single charge from the battery. He'd been flying around the whole state, fixing problems where he saw them. Rumour was already spreading of a 'green angel' out to help people, though he didn't like the term too much.
After all, this was technology, not something related to ethereal beings that served some almighty deity. Then again, as Arthur C. Clarke's third law states... "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." He said the words to himself, letting them sink in a bit. In truth, he did have one of the most powerful weapons in the universe attached to his finger now, so he guessed that it would fit the bill.
Too bad it couldn't help with the problem of his mother. He sighed, knowing that if he tried to simply use the thing to restore her mind, he could seriously mess up, leaving it more broken than it was already. "Dammit." He muttered, and kept on walking. As he went, he stopped looking where he was going, accidentally bumping into someone.
"Ah! Sorry, I wasn't looking." He apologised quickly enough, thinking that getting on someone's bad side would not be a good way to spend the day.

In front of Johnathon was a large hulk of a man. The man opened his mouth to speak but soon an arrow hit the lamp post between the man and Johnathon. On a rooftop was Nightwing with another arrow already drawn. The man took off running, a blur coming behind him as another man followed.
'C'mon tank we got Nightwing on us. No time to stop and chat!'
The man with apparent super speed said as the two moved quickly. Arrows sticking into the sidewalk in a perfect line following the man with super speed. Nightwing resumed running, moving at an incredible pace. It wasn't as fast as the man with super speed of course, but fast enough. The large man ripped a bench out of the ground and hurled it at Nightwing. Nightwing jumped up and ran along the bench before jumping to the next building.

Jonny was more than a little put off by the man's major size, but said nothing, partly because he was distracted when a freaking arrow struck the lamp post between them. Whilst he was still blinking, someone yelled out, revealing that the one in front of him was apparently called Tank. And that they were being chased by none other than the leader of the avengers - Nightwing! The two men had already began running, Nightwing giving pursuit. One of the men ripped a bench of the ground, tossing it at the avian crusader.
By that point though, Jonny had already ducked into a side street, giving him the time and opportunity to put on the green duds. He emerged in full uniform, creating a hand from the ring to catch the bench, before lightly putting it back in place. That done, he proceeded to give chase, which given his capable flight speeds, didn't take that long at all. He flew up right beside Nightwing, willing to offer his assistance if need be. "So, what you after these guys for? They rob a bank or something?"

Nightwing ignored the green hand that gently set the bench down. He was raised around heroes so he knew a Lantern when he saw one. He didn't even glance over when Lantern came beside him, not wanting to take his eyes off his target.
"Among other things."
Was his simple answer to Johnathon's question. He didn't have a need to or right to answer his question in full. As he ran he drew an arrow and fired hitting the large man in the back of the thigh. The man collapsed holding his leg and began to try and pull the arrow out. But another arrow hit him in the shoulder and pinned him to the ground.
"One down."

Okay, so they had at least commited some crimes, though whatever the rest were, Nightwing didn't seem like he was gonna give details. Not quite unreasonable, considering the two had first met... what, thirty seconds ago? As they went though, Nightwing fired off an arrow, hitting one of the men twice. Jonny was slightly put off by this, but nonetheless avoided going mental. "Hey now, no need to use major force on these guys." He said as he projected a hand from the ring, trying to grab the speedster just as he had the bench. Though, to be on the safe side, he'd probably keep this guy in the air - no traction equals no running after all.

"He's still alive."
He hated when people questioned his ways. Especially since this guy was brand new to the hero scene. No way he'd let a rookie tell him what to do. The large guy was powerless now and just in immense pain. He dropped down to the street where the speedster was being held in mid air. He hit him in the back of the head with the bow, knocking him cold.
"Let him go."
He said before pulling out a pair of handcuffs to cuff the now unconscious speedster. Behind him he could still hear the large man writhing in pain.
"Oh shut up and just be glad you're still alive."

Jonny couldn't help but get slightly annoyed behind his mask. Just because he left them alive didn't justify the method involved. He didn't bring this up though, as Nightwing was still an avenger, and pissing off a representative of the United Nations too greatly could prove troublesome. At the very least, he wouldn't go far in the hero community if its number one team hated his guts. Once the last guy was knocked out, Jonny put him back down on the floor.
The speedster was cuffed, the one called Tank still groaning in pain from, you know, getting two arrows shot into his body. Nightwing's attitude on the whole matter didn't really seem to be helping things too much. "How about I do the heavy lifting?" He doubted Nightwing wouldn't be strong in some form or way, but Jonny figured he could likely use some help getting them to the nearest police station (assuming they were going to go there - who knew where avengers took criminals).

"There's no point, the cops are on their way."
Nightwing activated a beacon that all local police stations were ready for. It also came with a special signal letting them know Nightwing sent it so an ambulance would be coming as well. The speedster would be fine aside from a headache. Tank however would end up needing help as well as physical therapy one day. Nightwing raised his arm and a cord fired from his forearm that began to pull him up to the roof.
"Good job Lantern. I thought the last Lantern we had around here died in The Battle. Good to see the Corps finally sent another one to replace him."
Sirens could be heard in the distance and Nightwing took off running. While they appreciated the help most cops still frowned about vigilantes. Not to mention the vast record Nightwing had accumulated over the years. He had a feeling Lantern would follow him, and he actually hoped he would.

Huh, the cops were on the way already? Guess the avengers had some way of contacting them then. Not surprising, thinking about it, considering what had happened to New York before... The sound of something shooting out of Nightwing's forearm, caught his attention, Jonny watching as the man landed on a rooftop, having been pulled up by a cord. Neat trick, but Jonny appreciated that he could fly instead.
"Good job Lantern." He appreciated the compliment, yet at the same time felt odd for it. After all, he had mentally criticized the man's metho- "I thought the last Lantern we had around here died in The Battle. Good to see the Corps finally sent another one to replace him." He clenched his fist, restraining himself. He knew just who Nightwing was talking about.
"The last human lantern didn't die in the battle, he disappeared on an assignment in space." A fact he knew personally, since he'd been raised by his father for years after that particular incident. As for the whole replacement thing, he wasn't too sure on that. Lanterns weren't specifically assigned to planets, rather entire sectors of the universe. Life supporting planets were quite rare nowadays, so the job wasn't as tough as the scale implied. And as far as he was concerned, it was a sign his father might have been alive all that time... though he wasn't sure of what that meant now he had the ring. And he had asked the thing - it confirmed its previous holder was Hal Jordan.
No time to think about that sort of thing though, as sirens blared through the air. Nightwing had already begun to move, the Lantern flying straight after. He could focus on figuring on finding out what happened to his father when he had the spare time to do so.

"Hmm, my mistake."
He said with a shrug. He had been pretty sure that Hal had been at the battle. Of course it's possible he did survive. There were a good amount of heroes and villains that survived The Battle. Just most were maimed either mentally, physically or both. Which made him wonder what kind of shape Hal was in and if he even still wore the ring. No matter, that's a Corps problem not and Avenger issue. Of course the Avengers still wanted to know, he was one of them. As they moved the sounds of the sirens began to fade away.
"You must have just arrived on this planet though. Haven't heard much about a Lantern in this Sector."

"Sectors for Green Lanterns are sections of the universe, not just a few solar systems. I'd be surprised at all if Earth knew what any lantern was doing when they're off Terra firma." Was his response, and it was true. Humanity just really didn't have the technology to keep tabs on a galactic scale, let alone universal. And of course, he'd arrived on this planet ages ago - freaking born here.
"And is it just me, or are those sirens starting to die down?"

"Yes I know about that. It came out wrong. And yeah, when your predecessor was out doing his thing the rest of the Avengers didn't know what he was doing, mostly because he wouldn't tell them."
He said simply as he ran. He had a bit of an attitude problem, something that was proving quite annoying, but also could make him useful. The Avengers did need more members. Perhaps he should extend an olive branch so to speak and try to recruit him.
"Well we are moving away from them. And no doubt they've already arrived there."
He said with a shrug. When they were a few blocks away he stopped, leaning against an air duct in the shadow and glancing at him. He crossed his arms as he eyed the Lantern.
"Ya know we do need more members of the Avengers."

Well he'd admit, his father hadn't always been the most social, unless the party concerned was women. In which case, he probably couldn't shut up unless Jonny's mother was around. When Nightwing stopped, Jonny did the same, dropping down beside his senior. It was a surprise when Nightwing seem to be offering him membership into the Avengers of all things. Sure, his father had been one before him, but it was still a bit strange. "If you're asking me to join, I think I'd need more time to consider it."

"It's a pretty sweet gig. Not to mention the offer may not always be on the table."
He said with a nod of the head. He didn't know why he'd need more time to consider it, only that he did. And as far as he was concerned that was dumb because it was a great offer. Be part of the greatest hero team ever, arguably. Some would say New X or Titans were but they were just lying to themselves. Everyone knew the Avengers were the big leagues.
"So why do you need time? If I may ask."

Of course he would say it was a good deal - it was Nightwing's team after all. Still, the guy asked just why exactly Jonny would even need the extra time to consider. "Hey, I've gotta make sure I can balance it between my other responsibilties." That and he was almost certainly gonna be spending time trying to find his father. He couldn't add much to a team if he spent weeks at a time away from it.
