Word on the street had been that there was a big drug deal going down tonight. The ‘son’ of Maroni was making a move to increase his rep and power and this deal would certainly help with that. The was only one problem with it though. Batman was planning on dropping by and saying hello to a Mister Sal ‘Hotshot’ Maroni Jr.
Leaping through the air, he used his cape to slow his decent as he jumped to do a building that was a good six floors lower than the one he had just left. Landing on the rooftop, he rolled with the landing, and kept on running. Coming to another ledge, he leapt through the air again, and landing on the adjacent building. This time he didn’t need to run. Casually he strolled over to the middle of the building where a large ceiling window was placed.
Couching down, Thomas tapped the side of his cowl, and his lenses flashed red for a moment as he started recording everything he was currently seeing. It was certainly something that would come in handy later. So there he stayed. Rigid and unmoving as a statue, the Batman watched, and waited for his time to act.
“Alright Maroni. Where are you?”[/b][/I] He whispered to himself.

Billy held his breath as the meeting started. After today he made his way to the bug he used to travle to Gotham for some business and decided while he was here the Blue Beetle would have some fun. He had gotten wind of this when he was roughing up some wise guy wanna be's who were lookin' to never meet Bubba. "I think this will not help you Marcus."
Why do you say that zoot? Billy asked as he saw the group form and make small talk as they waited.
"Well if history serves, we are in the city of the hero known as Batman." The scarab said, "And he is known to be...." Zoot don't worry, Billy said as he leaned closer. I'm positive a hero like Batman has better things to do then just pay attention to a bunch of wise-guys. He said with a smirk.
Oh! It's starting, Billy said crouching in wait as the guy they all seemed to be waiting for arrived.

It seemed that he had arrived just in time for the party to start. A good thing too as he didn’t feel much like waiting tonight. He wanted to get this over and done with so that he could get back to the cave and work on some more projects that he still had to finish.
Tapping his temple again, the lenses of his cowl zoomed in on the events, and his auditory sensors activated so that he could hear what was being said in the room below. When he saw the young Italian man, he knew right away that he was ‘Maroni.’ The man was flanked by six men with submachine guns and he exuded the kind of confidence that was common among those in Gotham’s organized crime.
“Bout time you got here Maroni. We were beginning to wonder if you were ever gonna show,”[/b] a man said with an obvious New York accent.
“Oh don’t worry about me Jimmy. I wouldn’t miss this for anything. You should know that by now,”[/b] the mobster replied with a big smile.
“Yea yea. So did you bring the money or what?”[/b] The New York thug asked as he walked over to a table in the middle of the room, setting down two large duffel bags on it.
“Of course I did,”[/b] he said as he snapped his fingers.
From behind him, one of the armed bodyguards walked up to the table, and set down a large suitcase. Snapping it open, he spun it around towards the New York gangster to show him the large amount of cash.
From the window above Thomas zoomed in on all the faces of the thugs present to make sure he would catch them for the recording before he tapped his temple again so that his lenses zoomed back out to normal. Tilting his head off to the side, his neck cracked, and he jumped down through the window. Landing on the table below, he watched as all the thugs ducked for cover to avoid getting cut from all the glass.
“Party is over Maroni,”[/b][/I] he said as he looked up at Gotham gangster.

Billy watched with wide eyes as he saw Batman crash through the glass and send the punks running. Holy crap zoot...IT's HIM! In Billy's excitement he neglected to notice that a rat was scurrying near him. Zoot noticed though. "Marcus, I think you should-" Quiet Zoot, Billy said, It's friggin' Batman,
Billy never took his eyes off the things happening and did not notice the rat scurrying close to him and reaching his leg. Umm...Zoot? "Yes Marcus?" Please tell me that you are activating some sort of armor on my leg. "Sorry Marcus, that's a rat." The scarab said, "Marcus?"
"AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH RAT, RAT, RAT, RAT!" Billy yelled as he jumped up and down. Anybody who wasn't scrambling for cover would look up and see a jumping Blue Beetle until he finally stopped and gasping. "That's better." "Marcus..." Yeah zoot? Billy looked around and saw people looking at him. "Oh..." Billy quickly pulled out his BB gun which he fortunately remembered this time. "Alright punks, kiss the ground and keep that way until the patty wagon gets here."

“Damn,”[/b] Maroni exclaimed. “Kill the Bat! Now!”[/b]
Around him all the men raised their weapons at him, smirking at the thought of killing the Batman. If only they had known how wrong they were. Reaching into his utility belt, he retrieved several batarangs. He was about to act when the sounds someone screaming ‘rat’ filled the air.
Everyone in the room, including the Batman, turned to see where the voice was coming from, and Thomas couldn’t help but raise a brow. He had heard that the Blue Beetle had died years ago, but hadn’t heard of anyone taking up the mantle. It appears that all changed.
When the Beetle told all the thugs to get down on the floor, they laughed at him. Narrowing his eyes at the man he found himself annoyed that, not only was he on the job in his city without telling him, but that he also seemed so terribly new at the job that he was going to get somebody killed.
Before the gangsters could open up fire on the new Blue Beetle, he threw his batarangs at several gangsters. Each batarang hit the man squarely in the chest and sent enough juice through him to send him to the ground convulsing from the electricity coursing through his body. Jumping into the air, he planted his right fist in the jaw of one of the visiting thugs from New York.
Now this is a party.[/i]

"Uh, oh." Billy said diving to the side to avoid the oncoming bullets, landed on his side with the bb gun pointing at the thugs and fired several shots at the chests of a few thugs. The beam was used to disorient the thugs; unfortunately he hasn't fixed the fact that the people shot with it still fight with nausea, and throw up every now and again. "Oh, there goes one."
Billy got up quickly and jumping off of a couple objects inside he launched himself up to the group, punching one of the few with a left straight. He axe kicked another who was hunched over and elbowed another in the face cracking the nose. "Hey!" Billy yelled, "I know this is kind of bad timing, but..." Dodge a punch to the face and dislocate the arm, "Can I get an autograph?"

Another thug fell to the floor with a thud after his face had met the Batman’s boot. Judging by the look of the man’s nose, he was going to need plastic surgery to fix that. The next one in the Dark Knight’s line of vision had just run out of bullets and threw his gun to the ground. Pulling out a knife, he rushed at him, and Batman grabbed the man by the wrist as he thrust the knife at him. Twisting the man’s arm, he swung it up over his head, and sent the men across the room where he crashed through a wooden door.
Turning around to charge at another thug, he heard the Blue Beetle call out to him and ask him for an autograph, something that didn’t exactly endear the new hero to him. There were still a dozen well armed guards to go through and this guy was asking for autographs. Tackling one of the thugs who had been shooting at him, Batman rolled with the impact and pulling out several small pellets, he threw them across the room to the trio of men shooting at the Beetle. Exploding his their faces, the man hacked and coughed as the tear gas filled their lungs.
“No,”[/b][/I] he replied as his gaze fell upon the Blue Beetle.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw another thug kneeled over and vomiting from the effects of the Blue Beetle’s pistol. Even though the kid was a newbie at the game, he at least had the tools.

“No,” Batman said and Billy was a little down trodden,
"Oh, okay..." The pellets exploded and Billy did a single handstand and kicked the gunman in the face with what he would call a helicopter kick. "Thanks for the assist man." Billy said after rolling back onto his feet and punched one he was close too. What wasn't surprising to Billy was that he noticed the number of people going after Batman. Always the bridesmaid. Billy thought,
"Marcus, look, behind Batman!" Billy looked and behind Batman he saw One of the gangsters point a gun at Batman, "He's going to shoot."
"Got it Zoot." Billy took out his gun and pointed once again at the shooter. "Watch out!" Billy said before firing the shot.

He could tell the Blue Beetle was disappointed with his answer for the autograph request, but he really didn’t care. He wasn’t a celebrity and this wasn’t some kind of game. He was the Batman and this was his duty, his destiny. He did however give the man a nod when he thanked him for the assistance with the trio of mobsters.
When the Beetle yelled out the warning to him, the Dark Knight jumped into the air, and spun around at the thug as he started power puking from the effects of the Beetle’s weapon. Reaching into his utility belt, he pulled out another batarang, and hurled it at the thug. The impact of the weapon hitting him in the groin was enough to make sure he wasn’t getting up anytime soon.
As he continued on attacking more the Gotham and New York mobsters, he couldn’t help but wonder who the Beetle was and why he was in Gotham. Hub City was quite the distance away and none of these guys were from Hub City. The only person he knew that was from Hub City currently in Gotham was Marcus Williams.
That’s it! Marcus is the Beetle. It explains the inexperience and convenient presence here in Gotham. It appears I underestimated the kid. Guess there was more to him than I thought. Still not too impressed with him working in my city though. That we’ll certainly have a chat about.[/I]
After another five minutes of fighting, the last of the mobsters was taken down. If the thugs weren’t knocked out, they were too busy vomiting from the Beetle’s pistol to do anything else. Of course the fact that they were all handcuffed together didn’t leave them much chance to escape either. Scanning the room, he found that Maroni had been able to skip out during the brawl, and wasn’t among his men.
Dammit. Looks like I’ll have to get Maroni another time. At least I got Jimmy ‘The Rock.’ I know he’ll have some nice intel to share.[/I]
Tapping his cowl, his lenses flashed red briefly as they stopped recording, and he turned his attention to the unwanted crime fighter across the room. “Mind telling me why you thought it was okay to just help yourself to some crime fighting in my city?”[/b][/I]

Billy looked around holding the BB gun at the ready just incase someone wasn't wretching and decided to swing on him. {i]"Marcus you might want to watch-"[/i] Squish! ...Thanks zoot. Billy said as he lifted his boot and saw a fresh coat of what he was guessing was linguini. "Great, linguini never comes out for days." Billy said stepping his foot back down and now looking more closely for puddles.
Billy didn't Notice Batman until he was covered by the sillohuete of Batman's Shadow. "Oh...hey."
Mind telling me why you thought it was okay to just help yourself to some crime fighting in my city?”
"Uh...I was in the neighborhood and thought I'd pay this place a visit, heard your mobsters were top quality." Billy tried to chuckle but it wasn't coming out.

All Batman could do was scowl at the blue costumed crime fighter. Thomas, like his father, didn’t like people just showing up on his turf unannounced and trying to do his job. Gotham was his city and only a select few were allowed to assist in his duties, and this Blue Beetle wasn’t on the list.
“In the neighbourhood?”[/b][/I] He asked as he raised a brow. “Forgive me if I don’t take your word for it Marcus.”[/b][/I]
Let’s hope my hunch pays off, otherwise I’m going to look like a complete fool right about now.[/I]
Looking down over the man, he folded his arms across his chest, and waited for an answer. From behind the cowl, Thomas’ eyes burned a hole into the yellow goggles.

“In the neighbourhood?” Billy gulped,
"Umm...yep." He said.
“Forgive me if I don’t take your word for it Marcus.”
Billy stood slack-jawed, how'd he find out who I was so fast?! This was the first time I was meeting the guy! Billy yelled in his head "Is it Marcus?" Zoot? "I have an idea Marcus." In Billy's head the scarab told him an idea that he had and Billy visibly was thinking that the plan was crazy. You sure zoot? "Just try it."
"I don't see the need to get so personal...Thomas." Billy said and stood there tensing up almost to the point of rigor mortis-like proportions.

Seems I really did underestimate the kid, but how did he figure it out? When Kord Industries and Wayne Enterprises split, his father had removed all information from Ted’s files that would reveal his secret identity or Ted’s. Maybe the Scarab figured it out and told him. Either way I’m not letting him know that he knows the truth. For now I need to play it cool.[/I]
“Nice try kid,”[/b][/I] he said with confidence. His face remained completely blank and unphased by what the Beetle had just said. “My name isn’t Thomas, but I’m betting you think I am Thomas Wayne. You probably figure that he’s the only person in Gotham who knows who you are and knows your name. But you didn’t take into account that I like to keep an eye on people in my city. Especially those who do dealings with self absorbed Thomas Wayne. Not a bad assumption though. Too bad it’s only an assumption.”[/b][/I]
He was sure to tack on some annoyance when he called himself self absorbed. He wanted to come off as someone who detested the persona of Thomas Wayne. It was going to be a long shot as he read about how intelligent the Scarab was, but it was a shot he had to take. Luckily he was great at bluffing and reading people. It was why he also noticed Marcus tense up when he said his name making him hope that Marcus would by everything he said.

Damnit Zoot. "Don't worry Marcus, I think I can salvage this." The scarab said to Billy. "Just repeat what I say okay Marcus." Zoot I'm telling you right now. "Do it."
Too bad it’s only an assumption.”
"Unfortunately Batman it's no assumption." Billy said with faux-confidence. "You see I'm pretty darn sure you're Thomas Wayne for several reasons the ones you stated being part of that. But you're father; Bruce Wayne, was often speculated to be Batman and with the number of contacts he made in the super heor community, several of those known shape shifters he could easily set up a point where he would be Bruce wayne and the other Batman or vice-versa. given the history for Bruce Wayne it would give him ample motive.
And also during your father's run as batman there have been a number of injuries which had to have attention while your family had a butler named Alfred who was a former british soldeir and served as a combat medic during the war. Though the wounds that were too severe your family had a personal doctor who was close to your family after Thomas and Martha Waynes known as Leslie Thompkins who had signed on a body guard who was once the villain known as the "Cavalier" Thus putting her deep in the Gotham underworld community. Then brings the number of boys your family has taken over the years. Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake. All of whom were adopted or taken in by Bruce and would explain the varying ages and skills of each Robin which have been documented in history.
Then brings us to Wayne enterprises, where if the CEO had "Borrowed" a certain gadget or commissioned a specific project no one would second guessed it. Then brings us to the Wayne History, Bruce sees his family shot as a kid, only natural that he feel something then and your life Thomas strangely mirrors just that. Both parents dead and no one else to carry the mantle you seem like the logical choice. If you're not Thomas Wayne I'm telling you Batman, you're definitely close to getting that man arrested on vigilante charges, but then again who am I to talk right?" Billy said with a smirk that he'd hope wouldn't show his sweat at his brow.

He smirked as Marcus tried to make himself look confident. The kid failed...a lot. He could understand though. Stepping into the shoes of the Blue Beetle was no small task, but the kid needed a lot of work. He had the basics, but that’s all their seemed to be to him. Even though he had the Beetle, he still needed work.
As he opened his mouth to speak he heard whispering coming from the thugs behind him, turning his head towards them, one of the thugs spoke a little bit louder so that another thug across the room could hear him. “Did you hear that? The Bat is that rich boy Thomas Wayne.”[/b] The talking was then followed by more puking.
Turning his gaze back to Marcus, it was obviously that he had gone from annoyed to down right pissed off. Reaching out, he grabbed the Beetle by the neck, and pushed him up against the closest wall to them. Lifting him up in the air with one arm, he brought the young hero to his eye level.
“If you ever try to disgrace this mantle again by associating us with the degenerate Wayne family again, I’ll make sure that your career as a crime fighter is short lived as you spend the rest of your life in a body cast,”[/b][/I] he said angrily. “And as much as I hate the Wayne clan, I’d be careful about what you go sprouting around before you get an innocent man killed. YOU GOT THAT!?”[/b][/I]
Dropping the Beetle, he turned his back on him to face the thugs who watched in fear of the anger the Batman showed. Looking all among each other, the thug who had spoken up before swallowed hard as his gaze met the Batman’s.
“Scratch that. No way is that guy a Wayne. No Wayne has a set that big.”[/b]
