Thirteen years. Thirteen long, hard years. That’s how long it had been since the death of his mother and father at the hands of Thomas Elliot, the man better known as Hush. It was because of that night that he killed Elliot in cold blood. It was on that night that the everlasting anger that consumed him day and night existed.
So like every year before this one, Thomas stood there alone in the family graveyard before the tombstones of his parents. Kneeling down before them, he placed a red rose at the foot of each gravestone, and kissed each of their names that had been etched into the cold stone.
“I miss you both,”[/b] he said finally after an hour of silence. “Helena wishes she could make it, but her flight got delayed in London. I’m sure you can understand how that is mom. You dad...not so much. But she wants you to know that she loves you and misses you.”[/b]

Deandra was dressed in a simple floor length black dress and black high heels. She had meet Bruce Wayne as a child and was a friend of his son Thomas Wayne. She slowly made her way to where she knew the grave of Bruce and his wife where and as expected found Thomas there. She waited silently as he spoke to them.
They shared a few things in common. Top most was their parents had been killed and they were both decedents of heroes. Thomas' father was the famous Batman and his mother was the famous Cat woman. Deandra's mother was the the famous Wonder Woman. Thomas had taken over his father's place as Batman and Deandra had become Wonder Woman. Deandra waited patiently for Thomas to notice her.

A cool breeze carried her scent through the air. It was a scent he was familiar with, but it had been a long time since it filled his senses. Aside from his family, she was the only real person on the planet he could call a friend. One of only several people alive who knew who he was under the cowl. Her presence though had perplexed him.
“Good evening Deandra,”[/b] he said softly as he turned his head so that he could see her out of the corner of his emerald eye. “It’s been a long time.”[/b]
Smiling lightly, he turned to face his childhood friend. It had been four years since they last saw each other and Thomas actually missed her. Like him, she was trying to live up the legacy left before her by her mother. Like him, she also understood the sadness inside at having lost her mother lost by evil. In a way, it was almost as if they were kindred souls. Ever since they were kids who played hide and seek in this very graveyard, the two always got each other. When his parents died and she came to see him with her grandmother, she understood. They didn’t even speak a word to each, but he knew that she understood. It was probably the same reason why she turned out to be his first crush as a kid.

"That it has been," Deandra agreed. She stayed where she was as he turned to see her. "Been too long if you ask me," Deandra pointed out. Deandra knew both where busy people both helping to protect the world from dangers. Then on top of that Thomas was the company head of one of the largest companies out there and Deandra was learning to be an ambassador.
Thomas was Deandra's first crush and only crush. They had been friends since childhood and they both lost parents to cruelty of man's world. Their parents had been closed in life and know their children had taken up the mantles fighting the same fight their parents had. "I thought it was time to see you again. It has been too long since we have talked." Deandra told him.

“Well I would have called but I’ve been busy lately,”[/b] he said with a grin. “Besides. I’m pretty sure you guys don’t have phone service on Themyscira yet.”[/b]
Looking into her blue eyes, Thomas couldn’t help but remember a time that felt so long ago where everything had been much simpler and when there hadn’t been a care in the world. He missed those days and had imagined on more than one occasion how things might have been had their parents remained alive and had they not had to take up the mantles of the legendary parents.
“So is everything okay or did you just need to get off the island the for a bit and stretch your legs?”[/b] He asked as he started towards her.

Deandra lightly chuckled when Thomas stated he did not think Themyscira had phone service. "It does not have phone service but, I have been spending most of my time with the Avengers. I do receive phone service most of the places I go with them I do have phone service," Deandra pointed out.
"I thought you would like a friend and it has been too long since we have hung out. I figured we could catch up with each other," Deandra told him. She opened her arms to give him a friendly hug.

“Catch up huh?”[/b] He asked as he smiled at her invitation.
Stepping forward, he wrapped his arms around her, and hugged her tightly. It had been years since he and Deandra last embraced each other, thirteen years to the day as a matter of fact, and he found himself missing her company.
“So JJ finally gave you a day off huh? Or did he suggest you come here and see how I was doing?”[/b] He asked as he slowly pulled away from her arms.
Deandra knew that there was some tension between Thomas and his nephew, particularly because Thomas didn’t approve of the methods the Avengers used to bring criminals to justice. If it wasn’t for the fact that JJ was family then he would have removed him from Gotham a long time ago, Avenger or not.

Deandra returned the hug but, made sure not to use her super strength so that she did not hurt Thomas. Deandra could remember there was a couple times that her mother had to remind her not to hug people too tight because Deandra could easily hurt them.
"More like I sneak away for the day," Deandra told him with a laugh. "JJ does not even know I was coming here. I hear the Batman is doing a lot for the city. It seems that the Batman has been good work again," Deandra told him with a grin. Deandra was one of the few who knew Thomas was actually the Batman of Gotham.

“Oh believe me. JJ knows you’re here. He is Dick’s son after all. Even if he doesn’t act like it,”[/b][/I] he said with a grin.
He wasn’t surprised that Deandra had been keeping tabs on his work as the Batman. It was because he took up the mantle that they had stopped talking all those years ago. Why he hadn’t had the time to pick up the phone and call. He wouldn’t have blamed her had she never talked to him again or still called him a friend, but Deandra was a different kind of woman...aside from the fact that she was an Amazon princess.
“Trying to anyway. All the work my father and brothers did went to hell once Gotham lost it’s Dark Knight. It feels like I’m starting from scratch most days, rebuilding a network of contacts, fighting against the police who once called the Batman an ally. It’s hard, but it needs to be done.”[/b][/I]

"That may be true but, he also better know that I there are things I need to handle on my own. That and I will visit my friends when we are not busy," Deandra pointed out. Deandra was a woman that was not afraid to stand up for her self no matter who she was talking to.
"I doubt anyone else would be up to the job. But, you are up to the job and all you have to know if you need me I will come help you. I am sure there are other heroes who will come help to. Do have the number for New X? Rain is one the squad leaders there and a good friend," Deandra pointed out.

“Well you are an Amazon Princess. JJ would be stupid to get on your bad side. Hell any guy would be stupid to get in your way.”[/b]
He smiled when she offered her assistance to help him anytime that she needed him. He knew that she would be there for him and like the rest of the family she had never given up on him. She always had faith in him, ever since they were kids and he knew there was no way that he would ever be able to repay her for that.
“Of course I have their number. I also have dossiers on all of their members. Them, the Avengers, the Titans, and SHIELD. You should know that by now,”[/b] he said with a chuckle. “I am my father’s son after all. Wouldn’t be the Batman if I didn’t keep records on every possible threat in the world now would I?”[/b]

Deandra chuckled when Thomas pointed out JJ or any other man would be stupid to get on her bad side. "There are those who just arrogant and think they can take me done. Usually at the expense of bruises and an occasional broken bone," Deandra pointed out.
Deandra smiled and shook her head when Thomas pointed out dossier of all the members of New X and he would not be his father's son if he did not. "Have you made friends with any other hero?" she asked. It never hurt to make friends with other heroes. The more friends in the circle the more help you could get.

“Tell me about it,”[/b] he responded with a grin.
Thomas knew first hand what it was like to be on the receiving end of a mad Deandra. Back when they were seven, Thomas had stolen one of her dolls and hid it on her as a joke. Only the joke didn’t work out so well when he refused to tell the young Amazon where he hid it. Had it not been for his training he probably would have ended up with more than just a broken arm and three broken ribs.
“Friends with the other heroes? We both know that I don’t have the luxury of friends,”[/b] he said as he walked past Deandra a few steps. “When I took up this mantle I knew that I would be going at it alone. This generation of heroes is too flighty, too hot headed, too untrained, too undisciplined, and think this too much of a game. It’s as if most of them don’t realize that there are lives on the line. Hell, most of them are just as bad, if not worse, than the criminals that they take down. No. I haven’t made friends with them and have no desire to.”[/b] Letting out a sigh, he looked over the horizon at the sunset for a moment before turning back around to face the beautiful Amazon with a grin. “Besides. I have you and that’s all the friends I need.”[/b]

Deandra chuckled when Thomas responded to her comment about some boys need to be taught a lesson. She also recalled the time that Thomas had played a joke on her when they were kids. Deandra was not too fond of her behavior that day. "I am sorry about the time I beat you up when were kids," Deandra told him.
Deandra nodded when he listed the reason he did not make friends with the other heroes. "Ever thought those are the exact reasons you should make friends with them? To show them how the right way to be a hero?" Deandra asked him. "Many of them are still upset inside from the lost of their parents. Maybe together we can bring the next generation to the light," Deandra pointed out. She then chuckled when he stated she was the only friend he needed.

“Bring the next generation into the light?”[/b] He asked with a grin. “In case you haven’t noticed Deandra. I’m the Batman. I don’t do light. I stick to shadows and darkness.”[/b]
He pondered what she had said about teaching this generation of heroes on how to be heroes and found himself wondering if he had it within himself to be the great hero that his father and brothers were. Working alone was easy for him, he didn’t have to rely on someone else to get the job done and if it didn’t get done then he was the only one to blame. He liked that, but he wasn’t so foolish enough to not understand the power of allies.
“Look Dee, I’m not cut out for teaching others on how to cope with the loss of parents. I went out and killed Hush the second I had a chance. That’s not something that needs to be taught. I’m not my father or my brothers. I’m no leader Deandra nor do I want to be.”[/b]
