"I think I heard somewhere that some cities needed a dark knight to watch over them. For Gotham I guess you are that Dark Knight. The one that people do not see but, they know are there," Deandra pointed out. Deandra understood that Thomas wanted to stick to the shadows.
"I do not expect you to be your father or brothers. If you where them you would not be yourself. I think you give yourself not enough credit. But, that is your choice. Oh, you may want to keep a close eye to the ground. There might be a power shift coming withing the hero circle. I have not heard anything solid yet, but there are some whispers," Deandra told him. She had only heard the barest whispers herself. But, one never knew when things that are hinted at actually happen.

“No city should ever need a Dark Knight Dee,”[/b] Thomas replied. “Cities should be able to be protected by honest cops who put on a badge everyday and say ‘not on my watch.’ Cities need heroes they can see and look up to. They need heroes like your mother and Kara. Gotham however doesn’t deserve that kind of hero. That’s why they have me.”[/b]
Deep down Thomas did wish that he could be a beacon of hope for Gotham like Kara was for Metropolis or how Diana was as ambassador of Themyscira, but he knew that wasn’t who he was. There was too much darkness inside him for him to be that kind of hero. And having already crossed the line that he swore he would never cross proved he didn’t deserve to be that kind of hero either. No. Thomas would continue to act as Gotham’s Dark Knight and be the hero it deserved, not the one it needed.
“And come on Deandra. There is no such thing as a power shift among us. We aren’t the mob for crying out loud. We’re a bunch of people working for the greater good and some just have bigger egos than others is all. You should know better than to worry about any kind of supposed ‘power shift’ among the ‘hero community.’ Unless Kara shows back up and our parents come back from the grave, there won’t ever be a shift in the way we all work Dee.”[/b]

"Then the city has the hero it deserves. Your father apparently thought the same since he was the first Dark Knight. Not all heroes start off in the light. Do not forget Wolverine, one of the most famous mutants, started out in the shadows. Along with all the rest of the X-men because of what humans thought of them in the beginning. So maybe one day you can step into the light to," Deandra pointed out.
"Thomas, it is the ones with the big egos we have to worry about. There may not be a shift in how we all work but, there may be an internal shift. I heard from Rain not too long ago that Rogue was missing. No one knows where she went," Deandra told him.

“Come on Dee. We both know I’m not some great hero. I’m just a man living in the shadow of his father and trying desperately to find some meaning for my life. I don’t belong in the light nor do I want to be in the light. I’m where I need to be. I’m not Wolverine, I’m not my father, I’m not anyone but me.”[/b]
When he had heard about the missing mutant though, the wheels in his head had started to turn. Many people had been disappearing lately, but it wasn’t uncommon for people to take sojourns. Even he himself disappeared for several years when he was working on his plan against Hush. And considering that it was Rogue they were talking about, he wasn’t surprised. The girl was like her mother.
“Maybe the pressure got to her and she couldn’t be the leader she thought she could. Maybe she decided that she needed to escape someplace for some alone time and didn’t want to be bothered. There are lots of things that could be going on Dee, but if you want me to I can look into it.”[/b]

"We are who we are meant to be. There is an old saying 'it is always darkest before the dawn.' You ever think that we are experiencing that darkness before the dawn?" Deandra asked him. A light wind blew Deandra's hair and dress in front of her. She pushed several strands behind her ear so they where not in her face.
"That would be good. From what I have found out she was last seen here in Gotham it seems. But, the tip was produced from a know drunk and he apparently mistook some poor dog as his long last cat. So I am not trusting the source, but it is also the only the only lead that heard about," Deandra told Thomas.

When the wind blew the hair into Deandra’s face, he stepped forward, and placed a hand on the back of her neck. Smiling he leaned his head forward and rested his forehead against hers. He knew what Deandra was trying to do, it was the same thing she had done ever since they were kids, and as much as he appreciated it he found that he really didn’t really need it. Or least he thought so.
“I know what you’re doing Dee. And I appreciate it, but it’s not needed. I’m comfortable where I am. Not to mention that rebuilding the reputation of Batman is just as hard as removing the city’s criminal element. I don’t have time to be a mentor to a group of heroes,”[/b] he said before kissing her on the forehead. Removing his hand from her neck, he stepped back from the Amazon. “And don’t worry about the tip. I’ll look into it. If she’s here in Gotham then rest assured I’ll find her or someone who does.”[/b]

Deandra relaxed when Thomas slipped his hand to the back of her neck. Deandra gave Thomas a smile as their foreheads touched. It was a comfortable feeling that she enjoyed. "Then my job is here is done," she stated with a giggle. She closed her eyes in pleasure when Thomas kissed her forehead. She blushed a little as Thomas kissed her forehead.
"I know you will," Deandra told him when he said he would look into the tip. "Just make sure you take of yourself to. I do not want anything happening to you," she told him.

“Don’t worry Dee. This is me we’re talking about. Gotham is my city. I know it like the back of my hand. I’ll be fine.”[/b]
While he had appreciated Dee’s concern, Thomas knew that Gotham didn’t have anything he couldn’t handle. He had been the Batman for three years and if there was anything that the city was going to throw at him, it would have done so by now.
Looking past Deandra he noticed that the sun was almost done setting. “Look it’s getting to be that time and I have to go to work. You have my blessing to patrol the city tonight if you want. I’ll look into this disappearance more for you okay?”[/b]
Walking up to Deandra, he gave her a kiss on the cheek, and walked past her towards the mansion. The disappearance had intrigued Thomas and he wanted to get to work on it right away.

"Don't get cocky Thomas, that always leads to trouble. There have been new threats popping up everywhere from what I have seen. I know that my mother got too cocky a few times and that lead to trouble that your father ended up bailing her out a few times," Deandra pointed out. It was speculated that Deandra was a result of Diana getting a little too cocky and that was how a man got her pregnant.
It was a well known fact that Thomas could be very protective of his city and did not like random heroes patrolling it. "It has been a while since I patrolled Gotham. So I think I will tonight. Thank you for looking into the disappearance. Your reputation as a detective is well earned," Deandra pointed out. She felt her face blush when Thomas kissed her check. Before heading to the mansion she watched him go before taking flight and headed to the city there was no doubt some trouble there that Deandra could stop.
