Astra stood silently before the ruins of the old tower, staring up at them silently as she thought about her new position as leader. She had openly vowed to the team that she would do everything in her power to prove she was worthy of this position. That she would protect the team and the people they served. She had the skills to lead, she had been trained to rule the Shi'ar empire someday and was still receiving lessons from her mother on the finer arts of ruling, so she knew she could handle leading a small team like this.
Starting forward, she kicked a piece of rubble over, thinking silently as she did about the history of this place. So many heroes fought for this team, they had a legacy she could only hope to live up to. Closing her eyes, she draped her wings around herself like a feathered cape, silently paying her respects to those past heroes. After a moment, she sensed someone approaching behind her and she turned, looking up to see who it was.

Selena looked around the ruins at the old Titans Tower and actually felt...upset. She wasn't sure why seeing as, well, Selena generally didn't have feelings for anyone except her father and a fair few people in between. She was curious as to why she had had these strange, bizarre feelings with her while she approached what remained of the tower. She kept walking towards the crumbled ruins and sighed a little. It was her first time this far away from Gotham City and so she decided to go around and look at the "sites" that there were to be seen. Someone told her to come here and be humbled by the sight of what happens when good men and women die. At first, Selena thought it would be fun to come here and reek havoc, but now that she was here, she wasn't sure what she wanted to do.
As Selena walked up to the rubble, she saw someone with large bird wings standing there. She raised an eyebrow, curious as to who this person was before they turned around. Selena tilted her head to the side at the creature before her. She looked half bird, half human and it almost confused Selena. She had never seen anything like it and she was sure that her father wouldn't know what to do with her. Selena didn't speak though. She just stood back, confused at this creature. She didn't stare in horror though, like most probably did, she stared in awe and then realized she was staring. She grinned at the woman apologetically before she turned and made her way back a little, not wanting to ruin this for the strange bird girl...yet. It depended on if she attacked or harassed, Selena.

She watched the girl as she stood there for a moment and cocked her head to the side at her surface thoughts. The girl stood there for a while just staring, but Astra didn't really care. She was used to strangers staring at her odd appearance. She was sure that if she looked like her mother, they'd be staring at the markings on her face or the feathery hair that was the trademark of the Shi'ar people. Either way, she would have had to get used to being gawked at. Astra caught the thought about getting attacked or harassed and she raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
"There's no need to leave. I won't bite."
She smiled a little at the half joke and took a couple steps forward, looking down at a piece of rubble as she waited for the girl's response. It was entirely possible the thought about attacking or harassing was just fear at Astra's appearance, but she wanted to be sure. It was entirely possible this person had less than good intentions in Astra's city.

Selena heard the female's words and stopped, turning to look at her. She blinked curiously and then instinctively her eyes narrowed. She was not okay with people reading her thoughts. She knew that there were mutants in the world and not many of them were nice people, not that Selena was a nice person, but she only did things that benefited her and didn't usually lash out at people she didn't know. But still, the thought of this person being able to read her thoughts made Selena completely uneasy. The woman approached her and Selena was tempted to move a few steps back, but she stood her ground. Sure, Selena may have only been human, but as long as this woman didn't dig in to her thoughts and her past, she was sure she'd get out of here in one piece.
"Sorry I interrupted your...um...moment?" Selena asked, looking at the rubble for a moment before looking back up at the girl. "And it would be greatly appreciated if you didn't read my thoughts..." She said, not being rude or insulting, just stating how she felt about this woman reading her thoughts. Those were Selena's and she would share them when she felt like she wanted to share them, until then, they were hers and she'd be damned if anyone would ever be allowed to read them without her permission. That there was an invasion of privacy if Selena had ever been one to follow the rules and the law, but alas, she hadn't been so...really this was not something she could technically argue with.

She shook her head at Selena's apology and chuckled a little at her comment on reading her mind. She knew Selena didn't really know she was Telepathic, so she decided to keep that a secret for now. She shrugged a little and looked over at Selena.
"I'm not Telepathic. When you look like me, you get used to people running away. What brings you to the ruined tower, miss...?"
She held her hand out to Selena to shake, resisting her unfortunate habit of saying Selena's name without asking. But since she was keeping her Telepath secret for now, she decided it was best to ask first this time.

Selena raised an eyebrow when she said that she wasn't telepathic. She then said something about her looks and then nodded. "I didn't run away because of how you look. I didn't realize that I was intruding," she corrected, wanting to make sure that this young woman knew that just because she looked different didn't mean that Selena would run away. That wasn't how Selena was, especially since her father had always been looked at by people as a freak. She knew that that's one of the reasons that originally drove him insane, of course, there were many other factors as well. Unlike most people in the world, and Gotham City, Selena truly worshiped her father in everything that he had ever done.
When the woman asked her what brought her to the ruined tower and then trailed off, asking for her name. Selena looked at her hand a moment before she stuck her hand out as well and shook it. "Selena," she said simply. "And I'm here sort of...site seeing, I suppose you could say. I've never been around here before so I figured I'd take a look around. Not to mention to pay homage to the heroes who had died protecting the city," she said without a moment's pause or a blink of an eye. Selena was a brilliant actress, but she still hid her thoughts well, she was suspicious of everyone who she didn't know.

She smiled at Selena's admittance of why she ran and bowed her head a little in response.
"Thank you for that. It's nice to meet someone who doesn't care about appearance."
At Selena's introduction, she smiled and bowed her head again a little. She listened to try and hear Selena's thoughts as she gave her reason for being there, but the girl was trying to block her. That was very intriguing, so Astra didn't push to hear anything. After all, she wasn't sure if Selena would feel her pushing.
"I understand. It makes you feel so special to know that these people risked their lives daily to protect us and our families. They didn't have to. They could have used their powers to get everything they wanted, but they protected us. It's inspiring."
She smiled a little as she thought about the heroes of the planet. They were all inspirations to her. It was one of the reasons she wanted to be a Titan.

Selena couldn't help the giggle that escaped her lips when the young woman in front of her thanked her and told her that it was nice to meet someone who didn't care about appearance. "My apologies," she began after calming herself. "It's just, if you knew who I knew, you would not be so surprised that appearances are someone that I don't care about," she said with a smile. Selena's mind began to think of her father once more and of the twisted way he looked, but she loved it, she loved him. At some point Selena had almost taken a razor to her face to look like her father, but he had stopped her, telling her that he didn't want that for her. In her own time she would realize if she wanted it or not, but back then, she was far too young.
When the woman spoke again, Selena nodded. "It does indeed make me feel special," she agreed with a smile before pausing. He wondered what this young creature's name was. She figured it wouldn't be too rude to ask, would it? There was a small battle in Selena's head before she smiled at her. "So, since I told you my name... What's yours?" She asked, slowly approaching her. She didn't want to get too close and frighten her. She was very intriguing to Selena and extremely interesting. She wished to know more about her no matter what it was. She just...wanted to know more about her. She knew that her father would have wanted to use her, but Selena wasn't so sure. She seemed more powerful than her father would estimate and as such, Selena wouldn't try to use her...for now.

Astra smiled a little at her comment about appearances and chuckled a little. She knew that there were a few rare people out there who were used to outlandish appearances. The Xmen for example. Her mind wandered a little as she thought about the Xmen and her father. A small smile crossed her lips as she thought about her father. Then Selena's thoughts turned to her father and Astra turned her thoughts to that line of interest, but she showed no outward sign that anything was different. She kept her smile the same for a few moments until Selena answered her other comment. She nodded as Selena said she felt special. When her name was asked, Astra smiled a little. Now would tell whether or not Selena had heard of the new Titan leader.
"My name is Astra. I apologize for not answering sooner."

Once Astra said her name, Selena couldn't help the grin that broke out onto her face. "Astra? As in the new Leader of the Teen Titans?" She asked, showing interest. Selena was indeed actually interested in knowing that this female was the new leader of the Teen Titans. Hunter would love to know this information, if he seemed to care anyway. Selena wasn't sure who would care about knowing this save for her. It was a different sort of thing for her, especially to run in to two heroes in three days? Extremely lucky on her part, actually. She was glad that this opportunity had happened, especially since she would definitely log this away for later.
Selena shook her head when Astra apologized for not introducing herself earlier. "And it's fine that you didn't respond earlier. Generally around here we don't really get told people's names anymore. It's a simple hello, goodbye sort of deal," she said while shrugging her shoulders like it was no big deal. Mostly because it wasn't since, well, most of the time Selena didn't care to know too many people's names anyway. She knew not to get attached to people because most normal people only hurt you when you didn't expect it, but Selena always expected it. Her father had raised her well.

She returned the smile and nodded. She had mostly expected that reaction. Most people didn't expect to meet someone like Astra out on the street like this.
"Yes, that would be me. I'll admit I'm still growing accustomed to the title, but I wouldn't give it up for anything. My team needs my training as a princess. I have to lead them as best I can."
She closed her eyes and took a slow breath before opening her eyes and looking over at Selena as she commented on people introducing themselves. She smiled a bit and nodded.
"All too true. Though there are few people who have a legitimate reason for it."

Selena smiled at her. "I had no idea that the leader of the new Teen Titans was so beautiful," she complimented, still in awe. It came as a shock to Selena that someone so...breath taking would be the leader of the Teen Titans. "I'm sure you'll have no problem at all with getting all of the male villains into jail," she teased, unable to help herself as she giggled more. Selena couldn't help herself. She was naturally a very giggly person. She knew that it was because her father had been a very giggly and happy person and as such she took that on into her own nature. There was no stopping it now and in a way, Selena didn't want to stop it. It was the one thing that she kept close to her with her father.
Selena nodded in response to Astra's words. "Very true indeed," she said before quieting herself. She wasn't quite sure how to break the ice with this one and tried hard to keep her thoughts hidden from the woman in front of her. She was a Princess, apparently, that much Selena had gathered from her, but she wouldn't repeat it to anyone except Hunter. "How did you get chosen to be the new leader of the Teen Titans?" She asked before pausing briefly. "If you even want to answer, that is. You don't have to if you don't want to," she said quickly, seemingly to be as innocent as she could be. Then again, Selena wasn't really one for innocent very often.

Astra blinked a little at the compliment and lowered her head, blushing deeply. She'd never gotten such compliments from a complete stranger. Of course the people on her team told her she was beautiful, they were her team. They always thought she was beautiful, so she knew they were telling the truth when they said they at least thought she was beautiful. But to hear it from a complete stranger was a shock. She chuckled a little at the comment on the male villains, but didn't respond.
When Selena asked how she was appointed, Astra shrugged a little as she thought about it. She probably shouldn't tell the whole story. She was put in her position for her training, her loyalty, and her brilliant mind. But she figured she'd better give a different story.
"Hard work, mostly. Proving I was worth it. Being the best I could be."
She smiled a little and shrugged. Sure hard work did have quite a bit to do with it too, but she wouldn't tell this strange person.

Selena noticed her blush and a small smirk tugged at her lips, but she kept it down. She had a feeling that she would be close to befriending her or at least becoming an acquaintance, especially after hearing her chuckle about the male villains. It had to be true though. Astra was a very beautiful young woman and almost all the male villains had to be doing what they were doing in this place because she was so beautiful. After all being a villain would mean that they'd have the chance to see her or touch her or even talk to her. Which, of course, a woman like Astra probably wouldn't do if any of the slime ball villain wannabes walked up to her on the street. Of course, it wouldn't be too hard to talk up to her on the street. She wasn't exactly incognito. When Astra shrugged her shoulders at her question, Selena wondered whether or not she'd get an answer. She then spoke, making Selena grin. "That sounds wonderful," she said before thinking of something else to say.
After a few moments, Selena realized that she did have another question in the back of her mind, but she wasn't sure if she could ask it without sounding rude. But then again, when had Selena ever not asked something, even if it was rude? "So where are you from?" She asked, which was a better way of asking her question than she originally had thought of. While waiting for Astra's response, Selena turned and looked at the ocean in front of her. After a moment, she plopped down on the dirt ground, not really caring anymore as she stared out at the ocean. She had always wanted to go to the ocean when she was younger, back when both of her parents were alive, back when her father was alive. She would always wish that he would take her to the ocean, but, she never told him that. A part of her wished that she did...
