He had left a note in Vale’s apartment for her to meet him at the docks by two in the morning so that they could talk. After his run in with Deadpool and the whole situation around that last week, he decided it was time for them to talk, and for him to find out just whether or not he could trust her.
So there he was at the docks, hiding in the shadows like he usually did, waiting for her to show up. He was unsure of how things were going to go and was not sure if she was going to come alone either. Ever since he had blown up the squad cars, the order was to arrest him on sight, but he was sure that ninety-nine percent of the Gotham PD would rather shoot him instead of bring him in.
Leaping down from the container from which he was perched, he casually strolled towards the designated area in which he hoped that Vale would show up. Turning one of the containers, he spotted several hobos huddled around a small fire. Looking up at the Batman, all the men froze in fear. From underneath his cape, the Batman reached into his utility belt, and pulled out several hundred dollar bills. Walking over to the closest man, he stretched out his hand to reveal the money.
“Go get some food and a decent place to sleep for the night. It’s going to be a cold night,”[/b][/I] he said with his usual deep voice.

After much inner debate, Vanessa decided to meet the Batman at the docks. She was worried of what he'd say or do. Twice now he'd hurt her, maybe it was the rejection, maybe it was the fact that he knew what to say that would cut her to the core, or maybe she was just PMSing. In any case, she had reservations about him now.
Dressed in casual clothing and wearing a long trenchcoat she found herself there early so she walked casually along, her police mace in her pocket for protection.
A voice near a campfire nearby caught her attention and she walked a few feet to see the Batman holding out money to a bum. She didn't know what to make of this, but waited until the men left to approach him.
"That was nice of you." She said, looking up at his cowl, the full moon shining above them...

“What man is a man who doesn’t make the world better?”[/b][/I] He asked in response to her comment.
Looking down at her, his emerald eyes gazed into her from behind the white lenses in his cowl. It had been awhile since the two of them were alone together and looking over her he realized that he had forgotten how attracted he was to her. It was an attraction he would have to push aside until he knew just where she stood in his life.
“I must admit Vale. I’m quite surprised that you showed up,”[/b][/I] he said as he looked around. “And alone at that. No Deadpool and no cops.”[/b][/I]
He wasn’t surprised that she didn’t bring other cops, but judging from what his bug in her apartment had picked up, he was surprised that she had done as he requested and came alone without Revan.

"I almost didn't come. And he doesn’t know about this." She frowned up at him. "I just came to find out what you wanted. If you want to chew me out then go right ahead. I haven’t done anything wrong or illegal."
She tilted her chin upward, showing her stubbornness to the situation. She had gotten over having her feelings hurt and now only her pride was wounded, and that wasn't something she got over so easily.

He shook his head in response to her comment. “No, I’m not here to chew you out Vale. I asked you here for a couple reasons. The most important being something I’ve been wanting to ask for awhile now. Why? Why did you help an insane mercenary to trap me and distract me from my duties of looking over Gotham and doing what the corrupt cops won’t. I had believed at one point that I could trust you. That you were a good cop who wanted the same thing that I wanted. So why?”[/b][/I]
His gruff, brass tone showed not only his confusion in why she betrayed him, but also that he had been hurt by her actions as well. It wasn’t something he wanted to let her know, but was not able to hide. Truth be told, he was hurt. He believed that Vale could have been the ally he needed within Gotham PD to assist in bringing down the criminal element in Gotham. Once his father had gained Gordon as an ally he had been able to do more. He had been in the loop of what the Gotham PD was doing and not only did it help him, but it allowed him to help them as well with providing them information they needed. He had hoped, wanted, Vanessa to be that ally and now he was unsure of whether he was what she thought he was.

Vanessa frowned and looked down between them, she wrung her hands somewhat before looking back up at him. This would be very difficult to admit but he deserved an explaination. After all, there was a lot about them that was the same. One of the major difference being that he was a man and she a woman, and that made some things complicated.
"I'm sorry." She said first, "If you know anything about me you know that's difficult for me to say. But when I am wrong I admit it... and I admit it. I was wrong to do that to you. You're an asset to the city and I... I have no right to stand in your way."
She sighed and tucked her hair behind her ears before looking back up to his eyes. "I could make up a lot of excuses and reasons for why I did what I did, but i'll just tell you the truth. I wanted to see you because i've... I guess i've had something of a school girl crush on you and I was too prideful to just admit it."
She looked away again, her cheeks flushing. "I came to this city without knowing anyone and i've been lonely. I guess my stupid female need for intimacy got the better of me and... I didn't know how else to get close to you. But I was wrong. And I really am sorry. "

He was rather shocked when she had realized that she was attracted to him. He had always figured that she viewed him strictly as a masked vigilantly who was nuisance, albeit a useful and needed nuisance. He had no idea that she was attracted to him, especially by the way that she threw herself at Deadpool.
“If had wanted to see me, all you had to do was say so. You didn’t need to align yourself with an insane mercenary see me. I would have been willing to see you voluntarily,”[/b][/I] he replied as she looked away. “And thank you for being honest. I know, more than most, how hard it is to admit when you’re wrong. It’s not easy.”[/b][/I]
Now that he had gotten the answer he had wanted, he motioned for Vale to follow him with a nod, and he started to stroll through the large crates towards where he had parted the Batmobile. He knew it was now time to reveal to Vanessa the other reason why he had asked her here. After getting an answer that was satisfactory to him, he believed it was time to tell her about the case he had been working on.
“There is something I have to show you. Something important.”[/b][/I] he told her as his vehicle came within view.

"He's not as insane as you think... and we're more than alligned now. I think he's my boyfriend actually." She glanced sidelong at the Batman. "There's really more to him than nonsense."
She nodded and walked with him. She realized the tone was starting to turn more serious and she put on her figurative cop cap and listened.
"Alright. What is it?"

He let out a slight chuckle when she stuck up for Revan. After looking over all the information there was on Deadpool, combined with their run, he knew that all there was to the man was nonsense. Psychology he was crazy, but then again...so was he.
“Good luck with that,”[/b][/I] he said as they finally approached the Batmobile.
Opening up the car, he reached into the passenger side seat, and pulled out a folder. Handing it to Vale, he stepped back beside the car, and waited for her to look through everything. He was about to drop a huge bomb on her and wasn’t sure how she was about to take it.
“I was working on a case before you and boyfriend decided to distract me from my job,”[/b][/I] he started. “Gotham city has a serial killer and Gotham PD doesn’t even know it. Worst yet, this same killer is also the one who killed your mother.”[/b][/I]

Without saying anything in response to his sarcseum, she took the folder and started to look through it. Several depictions were of well known murder investigations, none of them being her department or having anything to do with her. She frowned when he said the PD didn't know it was a serial killing. It made sense though, especially since the PD was next to worthless.
But what he said next made her stare at him and her blood ran cold. She looked at him, her eyes wide. "How did you... are you sure?"

He nodded in response to her question. The Dark Knight had been working on the case for several weeks before Deadpool showed, among his other cases, and at first he thought they were random murders until he looked at them closely. After he examined each scene he began seeing what the ‘detectives’ didn’t.
“I’m positive. Look at the how the women are positioned,”[/b][/I] he stated. “And look at the location of where they were shot. It’s all identical to your mother. If Homicide had bothered to do it’s job, they would see that all the bullets come from the same handgun. I haven’t been able to get the serial number as the weapon isn’t in the system but it came from a nine millimeter.”[/b][/I]

Vanessa looks the pictures over. How could the detectives have missed this? It was obvious. She frowned and looked again at the Batman. "You want me to take this information to my superiors?" She hoped he wouldn't say yes. If this was the murderer of her mother, she wanted to take him down and make him pay for what he'd done to an innocent woman.

Part of him wanted to tell her ‘yes’ and to tell her to let Homicide take care of the situation, but he knew he couldn’t tell her to do that. He knew what it was like to want to track down someone who had taken so much. Ever since he had watched his father die in his arms, all he could think about was ending Hush. His only fear was that Vale would do the same as he did, then she really would be just like him.
“It’s yours to do with as you please Vale. I’m still tracking down the killer and I know Homicide won’t be looking for him anytime soon,”[/b][/I] he responded. “I will admit that if you give this information to Homicide that they’ll just end up in my way. If you want to help, and I know you do, then get me the records that Homicide has on these murders so that I can investigate things further.”[/b][/I]
He knew that he was asking her to take a huge risk in getting him the secured files. Homicide Division was a place where she didn’t belong and to get their records was risking everything she had, but he got the feeling none of it mattered if Vale couldn’t get her mother’s killer.

Vanessa thumbed through the pictures again, each one bringing back the memories of the day she found her mother. She looked back at the Batman again and nodded.
"Just tell me where and when to deliver them. If this is the bastard that killed my mother then I'll help in any way I can."
She closed the file and held it in both her hands. She couldn't believe it, she was finally on the right track to finding the man who killed her mother, and all with Batmans help. She would forever be grateful to him.

He wasn’t surprised that she said that she would deliver the files to him, anyone in her position would have made the same decision. Even though it was risking everything, he had to give her credit for putting everything on the line to help him. He couldn’t help but wonder though if she was helping him just because the killer he was after was the same who killed her mother.
“Bring them here,”[/b][/I] he answered.
Reaching into his utility belt, he pulled a small cylinder, and stepped towards her. Flicking open the top of the cylinder, he revealed a red button.
“All you need to do is hit this red button once you have the files. When you do I’ll get here as quickly as possible,”[/b][/I] he said as he flicked the top closed again. “And make sure you’re not being followed.”[/b][/I]
Holding out his hand, he waited to see if she would take the cylinder from him.
