It was noon, possible Nate's favorite time of the day. The sun was at its highest meaning Sha'do was at his weakest. He'd given up trying to pull the bracer off, knowing it wouldn't work. But now Sha'do rarely spoke, giving Nate time to himself. It was a warm day, meaning Nate got wearing looks for his long sleeved collared shirt and pants. Over his shoulder he carried a book bag, having planned on doing some studying at the park since it was nice.
He sat down on a bench and pulled out his history book. He began to flip through it, reading about the battle of Waterloo.
'Ah Napoleon, one of my favorite hosts. Why else do you think he kept his hand in his coat all the time?'
Nate shook his head trying to ignore Sha'do for a little bit. But he believed what Sha'do said. From his brief research he saw the bracer came up quite a bit. Supposedly the mythical 'Black Knight' from the time of Arthur and all that, wore the same bracer.
"Just leave me alone, just for a little bit."
He mumbled as he kept reading.
'He would've won if he'd have let me take over the battle and enslave all his soldiers. Coward.'
Sha'do seemed to never really listen to any request of Nate's, something Nate was growing tired of.
"Just shut up."
He said a bit louder than the last time before looking up and seeing someone was walking by.
"Not you..."
He mumbled before going back to his work.

Rain was enjoying a nice day out she was helping escort some of the kids from the mansion on a field trip to New York City. Rain had been to New York City before and she always seemed to find something new to capture her attention. The students with her knew that her senses where more acute then most and that it was hard to get anything past her. They had tried in the past only to be caught in the act.
The more mischief students still tried but, were stopped before they could try anything. Others looked up to Rain as a big sister and in return Rain would treat them and care for them like they were her younger siblings. Rain had taken a few of the more energetic kids to Central Park to let out some of their energy. Rain kept tract of them and made sure they did not get too far before calling them back. She heard whimpering from one of the students who had accidental teleported themselves into a tree. With a knowing smile Rain floated up to the child.
"You alright?" Rain asked gently. The child nodded clinging to the tree for life. "I have you," Rain told wrapping the student in hug. The student let go of the tree then clung to Rain till Rain set her on the ground. She thanked Rain for getting her done as her friends ran over and made sure she was ok before continuing their little game. Rain smiled as she took in the happy kids playing and the beautiful day. Some would think she was an easy target since she was relaxed but, Rain was in tune to her surroundings and very few people could sneak up on her.

The person shook their head and walked off. Nate sighed and shook his head.
"And this is why I almost never leave the apartment. You make me look crazy."
He said before trying to focus on the reading, ignoring all the stares he was getting. He flipped a few pages and resumed reading, trying to shut out everyone, especially Sha'do. Of course with them sharing a body due to the bracer that was impossible. Now he was getting even stranger looks. He gathered up his books and walked further into the park. He saw children playing and sat down, knowing they might not even notice him. He resumed reading, trying to ignore Sha'do.
'Children....why must you bring me near children. Snot nosed brats if you ask me...'

Rain saw the young man sit down with his books and for some reason her feline side immediately took a dislike to the man. Rain knew better then to brush off her feline side when it warned her of danger. Rain scanned the area and noticed the children where wondering too far away. Some where already out of range of her voice. With a partial shift to lion Rain let out a roar. It was a signal that all the children knew. They immediately stopped their games and returned gather around Rain. They knew a roar meant to gather two roars meant danger while one meant gather but, there was no danger.
Rain then shifted back fully to human. "Its time to go," she told the students after checking her watch. The children started talking loudly and animated to each other as Rain did a head count. All her charges where there.
"Where we going?" one of the students asked.
"We are meeting up with the others then we are splitting off for supper," Rain explained. The children started shouting where they wanted to go for supper. Rain shook her head smiling since almost everyone wanted something different for supper. Rain started herding the kids out of the park passing the man at a distance but one of the kids was trying to walk back wards while talking to a friend trip and fell back wards in front of the man.

Nate saw the child fall and quickly dropped his book on the bench.
'Don't tell me you're going to help it.'
Nate shook his head and smiled as he helped the small child up.
"You gotta be more careful when you're walking buddy."
He said dusting the child off. As he did his sleeve moved an inch or so showing a bit of the bracer. He quickly pulled the sleeve down and smiled nervously.
'I don't know why you're so ashamed of me.'
Nate shook his head at Sha'do and smiled before looking back to the child.
"Better hurry up, don't want them to leave you behind."

Rain turned when she heard someone fall. She noticed that one of the students had fallen back-wards on her butt. Rain smiled at the sight. Then as she walked toward the girl she noticed the man helped the student up. "Thank you, sir," Rain told him. She then turned to the student. "How many times have we told you to watch where you are going?" Rain asked her.
"Many," she told Rain giggling. She then turned to the man. "Thank you for your help," she told the man. "Come here often? We are here one a field trip," she told him before Rain could stop her.

"It's alright, and you don't have to call me sir."
He said with a smile. He didn't like being called sir, it always felt awkward for him. He wasn't entirely sure why, but he just knew it did. Maybe it was because it made him feel older than he was.
'Why shouldn't you be called sir? Demand respect from the brat!'
He sighed a bit and smiled again at the girl's question.
"Well yes I actually do come here often. I live around here, so there ya go."
He said smiling and nodding his head before glancing over at Rain.
"A field trip huh? Well are you having fun?"

Rain nodded when the man told her she did not have to call him sir. "I do not know what else to call you then," she pointed out kindly. "It is nice to find someone who will help others where ever one goes," Rain told him.
"Lots of fun!" the student told him with a giggle. "New York is neat with lots of cool stuff!" she told him.
"I am sorry but we really should get going," Rain told him when something caught her attention. She turned her head to the sounds of screams. "Everyone stay here! Emily you are in charge!" She ordered pointing to the oldest of the group who was in her middle teens. Emily she knew had the power to create a forcefield that she could use to protect the other children. She nodded as Rain raised a wind and took to the air. When a shot ran out she landed again and shifted into a cheetah and ran with all her cheetah speed to the scene. Several men seemed to be ganging up on a pair of youngsters. They were startled when Rain in cheetah form jumped over a row of hedges and landed on the soft grass near them.

"You can call me Nate, Nate Leach."
He said with a smile. Unlike some hero last names the name Leach wasn't usually recognized, outside of the BPRD that is. In the BPRD you'd have to be stupid not to recognize the name. But Nate got the feeling she wouldn't. Nate was about to respond when there were the screams.
'Ah, music to my ears. Too bad I can't go join in....'
Nate stood up and looked to the one Rain called Emily who was in charge.
"Watch my stuff."
He took off running after cheetah Rain.
'No. Please tell me you're not going to help them.'
"I have to. At least to off set your evil."
'Evil is such a harsh word...'
He ran down the street to where the showdown was taking place. When Nate got there he'd just noticed Cheetah Rain in a stand off with some men. And considering they were going after kids he guessed they were some anti-mutant pricks. Sure they weren't as plentiful as 20 or so years ago and mutants were widely accepted, but there were still some.
'Racism? That is one evil that even I would fight. Not to mention the violence against children. Too bad it's light out...'
"I need to get those kids away..."
Nate began to slowly creep towards the kids while looking for an exit he could use. With a quick burst of speed he ran for the kids when he noticed the men seemed pretty distracted with Rain. He was just a few feet from the kids when a shot rang out and Nate feel the sting of a bullet in his back and he collapsed.

Rain nodded when Nate told her his name. "Nice to meet you," Rain told him.
"Nice to meet you!" the student added with a smile.
The students nodded when Nate told them to watch his stuff and he seemingly rushed off to help Rain. They knew Rain was capable of taking care of her self and was well trained in her powers.
Rain heard Nate approach and one ear twitched toward him. She heard what he said and started growling at the men and circling them. They were more concerned with her trying to attack then with the kids then she heard the shot rang out. She saw Nate collapse and smelled the blood. She quickly resumed her human form. Leaving the men shocked. Before they could do anymore Rain blasted them with lightning from her hands knocking most out the ones not knocked out would be stunned for a bit. Rain knelt by Nate and started to look at his wound. "Do not move," she told him.

He coughed and held his side where the bullet had hit. He threw the bloody bullet to the side before sitting up and sighing a bit.
"I hate getting shot. It hurts like hell. Looks like I really screwed that one up."
He said, now feeling like a complete failure. He stood up and stretched before examining his shirt and shaking his head.
"I liked this shirt to."
'I must admit it wasn't a bad shirt.'
He gave a light chuckle at what Sha'do said and shook his head. He then looked over to where the men lay groaning and now smoking from Rain's lightning.
"Impressive."

"How bad is it?" Rain asked Nate as she stood back up. She saw him toss the bullet to the side and could see and smell the blood. "Unless you have some healing factor you should get that checked out," she told him. She was well aware just how bad bullet wounds could be.
"They are still alive but, hopefully will think twice before picking on kids again. I might alert some of the local heroes about the problem," Rain stated. Growing up she meet many in the super hero community but, she had not meet them all and some of the newer heroes she did not know yet. But, it would be easy enough to contact some of the local heroes and let them know what was happening.

"It's fine. Just kind of knocked the wind out of me."
He said with a shrug before wiping his bloody hand on his jeans and shrugging a bit. He was actually quite embarrassed. He meant to help be the hero and instead got shot and made a fool.
"Yeah, healing factor...."
He said with a slight smirk. That was close enough to the truth after all, just not 100% of it. Then again most people had trouble believing the Spear of Destiny actually had supernatural powers. And if they did then understanding why he'd apparently stolen it made things even more complicated.
'Still alive? Such a waste of her power'
"Well at least one of us didn't mess up. And hopefully some heroes pay better attention to them. People like them shouldn't be allowed around anyone."

Rain nodded when he stated that he was fine and said trailed off about the healing factor. She knew he was hiding something but, she was not going to push. She knew that everyone had secrets that they preferred to keep to themselves. She had a couple herself.
"Trust me, I have messed me up plenty of times. I also had good teachers to learn from," Rain told her. "I also have been training since I could walk to be a hero basically. My mother taught me a lot about weather powers since she has them herself. My feline powers we believe may be in part a gift from the God Bast who protects my people," Rain told him. It was pretty common knowledge that her mother was Storm and that her father was the Black Panther before he passed away.
Rain's ears shifted into cat ears as she could heard something. They twitched as she tried to locate the source of the sound. "I hear a high pitch sound, could be trouble," Rain told him. Rain's ears twitch as she honed into the sound.

"Yeah, well I don't get great teachers or anything. I mostly just make it up as I go."
He said with a shrug. Naturally it worked for him however because he had no desire to be a hero. He just wanted to be a normal person and free of Sha'do.
'No teachers!? I've been trying to teach you for awhile now!'
He shook his head before looking back to Rain and smiling. He rubbed the spot where he got shot absent mindedly as he looked around. He was more embarrassed than anything. He tried to be a hero and got shot for his effort, pretty bad really.
"Well what kind of high pitch sound?"
Nate asked curiously. He might get a chance to redeem himself just yet, even though Sha'do hated it.
